Google+ Predicto Championship: History

History

This all started with the European Championships in 2004. The eventual winner of that was Muz.

Season 2004/2005

Predicto Championship Winner

Loaf

There are no records of this season. The Predicto Championship was conducted on paper back then, and participants had to actually write out their predictions by hand.

Predicto Cup Winner

Robbo

This was the first of Robbo’s historic run, and also the first ever Predicto Cup

Season 2005/2006

Predicto Championship Winners

Wiffy & Loaf (209/391 53%)

This season was tied, with Wiffy choking in the final few weeks and allowing Loaf to catch him and share the title. There were 20 people in the league

Predicto Cup Winner

Robbo

The second win in a row for Robbo in the Predicto Cup

Predicto World Cup 2006 Winner

Sean

The first ever Predicto World Cup was won by Sean. The competition was an intensive Prediction fest that covered every game in the competition and required updates by email/phone/letter/carrier pigeon over the 4 week period

Season 2006/2007

Predicto Championship Winner

Sean (199/378 53%)

The league increased to its highest ever numbers this season, mainly due to the evangelical cheerleading of Hendo, and his change of jobs. The title was claimed by Sean, with Loaf, having been, up until this point, the dominant force in the Predicto World, only managing to finish 16th

Predicto Cup Winner

Robbo

This win ensured Robbo a place in the history books. At this point he was the only person to ever win the Predicto Cup, and for his victories in the three consecutive competitions he was awarded the Predicto Cup trophy to keep

Season 2007/2008

Predicto Championship Winner

Adso (208/339 61%)

Following the close of the previous season, league reconstruction took place and the membership was reduced to 16, a level it remains at to this day. Adso was the winner this year with an unprecedented prediction percentage, and strolled to the title with a 4 point lead. The previous year’s winner, Sean, suffered from the same fate as Loaf before him and only managed a 10th place finish. And speaking of Loaf, a much better showing in this season saw him claim 3rd place behind Mini Neebs, who was developing a “always the Bridesmaid, never the Bride” reputation with his constant top 4 finishes, but with no silverware to show for it.

Predicto Cup Winner

Mini Neebs

Mini Neebs somewhat corrected the reputation he was gaining in the league by being the only person other than Robbo to claim the Predicto Cup, and he was to start his own domination of the competition.

Euro Predicto Championship 2008 Winner

Kev

The second Euro Predicto Championship was won by Kev. This was the first competition to introduce goalscorers, Kev was helped to the trophy be Klose, Torres and Ronaldo

Season 2008/2009

Predicto Championship Winner

Shoom (214/375 57%)

Another new winner this year in Shoom, and kind of from nowhere with previous finishes of 15th, 21st and 5th. He ended the season with an incredible 12 point lead over second placed Loaf. This still stands as the record for winning margin, and at the time was the highest total achieved.

Predicto Cup Winner

Mini Neebs

Mini Neebs wrapped up his second consecutive Predicto Cup win, following in the footsteps of Robbo

Season 2009/2010

Predicto Championship Winner

Loaf (216/370 58%)

A return to the top for Loaf, with the highest ever points total (to date). Bridesmaid for the year was, you guessed it, Mini Neebs only 2 points behind Loaf.

Predicto Cup Winner

Mini Neebs

The lack of Predicto Championship glory once again spurred Mini Neebs on in the cup, and he was able to match the achievements of Robbo and claim the Predicto Cup for the 3rd year in a row

Predicto World Cup 2010 Winner

Moyz

Moyz picked up his first trophy with the big one, the Predicto World Cup. The success was primarily due to the goals of Gonzalo Higuian, however this was just a fine compliment to some of the finest predicting seen in a generation

Season 2010/2011

Predicto Championship Winner

Shoom, Sean & Loaf (184/339 54%)

A three way tie for the championship title. 3 previous winners, and including Loaf who was the holder. Guess who was 2 points behind? That’s right perennial Bridesmaid Mini Neebs. This was a dramatically low scoring year, with the top scores being 32 points off the all-time high score (216 by Loaf the previous year)

Predicto Cup Winner

Sean

A landmark year for the Predicto Cup with someone other than Robbo or Mini Neebs winning for the first time ever. The cup win capped a good year for Sean, which saw double silverware. In another first, Sean and Tadga made it an all English Predicto Cup Final

Season 2011/2012

Predicto Championship Winner

Ted & Adso (196/370 53%)

This season turned out to be one of the closest, and exciting run ins so far. The Broon Brothers had to share the prize in the end, but they were pushed all the way by Dave (who finished 3rd) and Moyz (who crumbled during the final weeks). A first taste of silverware for Ted, and the first honour for Adso since the 200708 season.

Predicto Cup Winner

Shoom

Not to be outdone by the Predicto Championship, the cup had one of the most dramatic finishes yet seen. There was no separating Shoom and Loaf, so it went to penalties, and when penalties could not decide the match, it went to sudden death based on the last game of the season, Heart v Hibs Scottish Cup Final. Shoom was to emerge victorious to claim his first Predicto Cup

Euro Predicto Championship 2012 Winner

Jean

In a season of dramatic event, the Euro Predicto Championship was no different. It had to be decided by tie break. Jean, on her debut, managed to edge out Wiffy to take the Euro Predicto Championship crown. Her victory was only assured during the final by Torres’ goal.

Season 2012/2013

Predicto Championship Winner

Loaf (203/388 52%)

The self-styled “Prediction Lord” has done it again. Congratulations to the Loaf who adds a 5th Predicto Championship to his list of honours. Letting others, notably Matt, set the pace in the early season, he moved into the top spot in February and despite being run close by last years (joint) Champion Ted, Loaf was able to maintain his advantage and finish with a two point lead.

An excellent points total from both Loaf and Ted, they are the first to break the 200 point barrier since 09/10 season

Predicto Cup Winner

After a gap of six years the original Cup Master has reclaimed the trophy. A supreme lesson in Cup play was demonstrated by Robbo, culminating in an (almost) clean sweep of 4 out of 5 different predictions from the other Finalist, Adso.

Season 2013/2014

Predicto Championship Winner

Congratulations to Ted who takes the Predicto crown for the 2013/2014 season with a personal best and all time Predicto point’s record. This is Ted’s second title in three years. It was a superb season from Ted with his lowest league position, 4th, coming back in August. He made it to 1st in November and stayed there, with the exception of a brief spell in January, all the way through.

Mini Neebs, the perennial Bridesmaid, was so unlucky again this season missing out by only a point. His 220 points is a personal best, and would have been a Predicto record but for Ted’s performance.

Personal bests this season were also achieved by Sean, Sandy, Ben, Dave, Kev, Robbo, Matt and Muz.

It was a very high standard of predicting this season with everyone over 50%

Predicto Cup Winner

Adso

A first Predicto Cup for Adso after disappointment in the Final last yeat. This was one of the most exciting Predicto Cup finals, going down to the last game.

Predicto World Cup 2014 Winner

Shoom

After an amazing World Cup and an equally exciting and close Predicto World Cup, Shoom came out on top, beating Jean by one point.

Season 2014/2015

Predicto Championship Winner

Syd (204/380 53.68%)

A huge congratulations to Syd, who is confirmed as the champion. A first title for Syd, who managed one more point than his previous Personal Best season (2009/2010). It was a marvelous season for Syd all the way through

He took first place in September, had a brief wobble in October, but was back on top in November, where he remained all the way to the end.

Predicto Cup Winner

Sandy

A first Predicto Cup, and indeed a first Predicto Award for Sandy. This years Predicto Cup was won at a canter, and with ease from Shoom and Loaf

Season 2015/2016

Predicto Championship Winner

Kev (179/378 47.35%)

A first Predicto Championship for Kev, a great season to mirror Leicester in the Premier League by going bottom to top. He survived a late charge by Sean to win the title by one point.

Predicto Cup Winner

Robbo

Winning the Trophy for an amazing fifth time, Robbo cements his place as Cup Master.

Euro Predicto Championship Winner

Robbo Neilson

completing a cup double, Robbo bagged the Euro Predicto Championship trophy in the last match, beating Sean and Kev by one point

Season 2016/2017

Predicto Championship Winner

Sean (228/380 60%)

Sean picks up his Third Predicto Championship Title. In a very close run competition, he prevailed on the last day to take the title by a single point over Mini Neebs.

Syd Cup Winner

Mini Neebs.

His fourth Cup win
